Our first post
Hi!
This is exciting – the first entry in my journal for you, the environmentally aware adventure traveller.
I want to keep you up to date with some exciting and interesting destinations I have found and also keep you informed on great travel products which can help to make your travel more enjoyable!
Recently I went to a place called Thevanard Island, which is a part of the Mackeral Islands group just off the coast near Onslow in Western Australia. The islands are developing a number of eco activities including turtle watching, whale watching, and diving and snorkelling. The Dugong also inhabits the waters around the islands and can be seen on occasions from April through to September. Some fishing is also allowed in the waters around the islands. The whole place is geared towards the “simple life” Clean and comfortable self-catering accommodation is available with all linen, crockery and utensils supplied. There is a shop on the island and a club house to meet other visitors and enjoy a drink after your day of swimming, snorkelling, exploring, fishing or just plain relaxing. Guests on the island are encouraged to respect the environment, which really pleased me!
In May 2009 a very unique eco villa will open on Direction Island, one of the other islands, which is fringed by its very own world class coral reef. It will be the only villa on the entire island – you can rent your own piece of natural paradise! The villa will be solar powered and fully self-contained – perfect if you want to get away either by yourself or with a couple of friends (mates as we say in Oz!). The villa sleeps up to four people. Just remember that you have to be the independent, adventurous type – whilst the accommodation will be luxurious, there are no staff here to look after you!
If you are interested in looking up further information on the Mackeral Islands you can go to www.mackeralislands.com.au.
One of the new travel products which I recently “tested” was the satin bra bag – it was so useful when I went out with a group of friends for a drink – I could carry some cash with me and felt quite secure in the knowledge that even if my handbag was stolen, I would not be without my taxi fare home – I had a great night and I am happy to report that I did not have to rely on my “hidden stash”, but it was just great knowing I had it on me! The product is big enough to also carry a room key and credit card when travelling and is really, really useful – you can buy one by logging on to my website – www.globalsheila.com. They cost just $8.95 AUD, so I am going to get a few of them for my mates as Christmas presents – they will be easy to post and I know they will be so useful.
I am constantly looking for new and interesting places to visit – especially ones that are a bit “off the beaten” track and which offer some unique experiences. In this fast-paced world that we live in, it is good to just take some time out now and then and remind ourselves that life is meant to be enjoyed! If you have had any experiences that you would like to share with me, please send me an e-mail: melva@globalsheila.com – then I can pass on the word to our other Global Sheila’s. Likewise, if you have any ideas for travel products that you would like to see on the market, let me know so that I can try to find it for you.
One great product which I found recently was a silk sleeping sheet – and I am getting some to make them available through my website. I will keep you posted on this.
